Join alumni around the world to break a record
08 Sep 2020
Take part in the Worldwide Charity Run on Saturday, 19 September
As part of Manchester Day of Action, on Saturday, 19 September, 12noon British Summer Time, alumni around the world will run, walk, roll or jog at the same time - whether it’s 7am in New York, or 7pm in Hong Kong.
This has been organised by alumni in Hong Kong so that staff, students and alumni of the University can come together to break the Guinness World Record for the highest number of participants joining a run on Zoom.
What to expect on the day
The way you move is completely optional, you can run a marathon over mountains or walk on a treadmill, roll around your local park or jog on the spot in your own home.
Whatever you decide, please make sure you follow local social distancing rules and public health advice, particularly with attention to the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure your own safety and the safety of those around you.
Also please take into account any personal health conditions which may be impacted by participating in this event, for example cardiovascular or respiratory conditions.
If you would like to participate in the World Record attempt, you will need to be connected to a Zoom call (hosted by our Hong Kong office) and on screen for the first five minutes of your run. Join the call from 11.45am for the warm-up; the starting klaxon will sound at 12noon.
We’ll record the call and share it on social media to celebrate the achievement. Connecting to the Zoom call is optional, but is necessary if you want to participate in the world record attempt.
To take part, please fill in this survey with your contact details so we can email you with details of the Zoom call and everything you need to know about the event.
If you decide to take part, please consider making a donation to the Emergency Hardship Fund, our appeal to help students that are facing financial difficulty due to the pandemic.
