Interactive orientation events for staff and postgraduate research students
Microsoft Teams is the new digital hub for communication and collaboration across our University, and was made available to all staff and postgraduate research students (PGRs) in August.
As part of the launch of Teams, a series of interactive orientation sessions have been organised, with places still available on Tuesday 8 September and Wednesday 9 September.
These introductory sessions are run by a company called Hable, an official Microsoft partner. Each one lasts for an hour, with an additional 15 minutes set aside for Q&A.

Teams Live Events
There will also be a further opportunity to join a large scale 'Teams Live Event' on Thursday 17 September and Thursday 8 October. Further details about these will be published soon, but you won’t need to book in advance – you’ll simply need to join the meeting on Teams.
Get started with Microsoft Teams
Have you visited our website dedicated to Microsoft Teams? There’s information on downloading and installing Teams and a range of ‘how-to’ guides covering functionality such as meetings, calls, files, collaboration and chat. There’s also an extensive range of FAQs for topics such as accessibility and data storage.
Using Teams
- The creation of new Teams is currently by request only and a process is in place if you need to set one up – please see Requesting a new Team in Microsoft Teams.
- Guest access to Teams (to allow collaboration with colleagues external to the University) is coming soon.
- Teams replaces Lync/Skype for Business, which will be decommissioned over the coming weeks.
Teams for students
Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students will get access to Teams later this month, in time for the start of Semester 1. Some of the features and functionality will be slightly different to what staff and PGRs have.
Microsoft 365
Teams is part of Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365), which gives you access to a whole ‘ecosystem’ of useful applications – some of which are available right now.
