Join our first ever virtual Purple Wave

28 Aug 2020

Run, walk or jog wherever you are on Sunday, 6 September

Be Active

Our University invites all students, staff, alumni, offer holders and members of our wider community to join the first ever Virtual Purple Wave on Sunday, 6 September. This is a completely free event, organised by UoM Sport

This remote, mass participation challenge involves everyone taking part - running, walking or jogging - wherever they are, to collectively complete a virtual lap around the world.

You can choose to take on a distance of 2.5k, 5k, 10k or a half marathon – and we’d love you to take part whether you were due to join in with our on-site Purple Wave events this year or not. We’re delighted that we’re still able to bring our University together through physical activity to be active, be well, be part of our community and raise money for a fantastic cause.

Everyone involved will be asked to wear as much purple as possible on the big day – creating a huge splash of Manchester purple all across the world.

Whatever drives you, sign up now to join us in the first ever Virtual Purple Wave on Sunday, 6 September.

Our chosen cause

If you like, you can use it as an opportunity to raise money for our chosen cause, Re-write Cancer. This University project aims to build a world-leading cancer research centre, right here in Manchester.

There is no minimum fundraising target so you can set your own – every single pound raised will make a difference. To fundraise for Re-write Cancer through the Virtual Purple Wave, just visit our Re-write Cancer campaign page and click ‘Start fundraising’. The Re-write Cancer team will then get in touch with you to support you with your fundraising.

Once you’re signed up, we’ll be in regular contact to support you with your challenge prep. Rest assured that whatever your goal might be, we’ll support you to achieve it. Our newsletters will also include more practical information closer to the big day, including how to log your distance with us online.
