Marking Holocaust Memorial Day
26 Jan 2007
Candlelight vigil on 29 January and memorial event on 30 January
Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked across the country this weekend.
People of all faiths and none will be getting together to remember the horror of a state systematically killing millions of people because of their race, religion or political beliefs. We all think we know our history but marking it together is essential to ensuring we don't repeat it.
Lunch time memorial event
On Tuesday 30 January 2007 at 1pm, Meeting Room 1, Students Union, Oxford Road
Introduced by Rabbi Rubinstein, (free lunch provided from 12.30pm) with:
- Henry Guterman (Holocaust Survivor)
- Rochelle Hodds (Anne Frank Trust)
- Donna Guthrie (Unite Against Fascism)
There will also be a short film shown and material from charities committed to remembering and learning from the atrocities of our past.
Candlelight vigil
A candlelight vigil organised by the Manchester Jewish Society will also take place on Monday 29 January 2007 from 3 to 5pm outside the Students' Union.
