Request to complete short (45min) Online Prevent Training Programme
26 Jun 2020
A message from Dr David Barker, Head of Compliance and Risk
Dear colleague
Our University is subject to legally-binding sector-specific Duty Guidance and must demonstrate “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”.
To ensure we comply with the law and protect vulnerable people in our community, we need our colleagues to complete the relevant training.
The University has, to date, been able to demonstrate compliance every year since the Duty was introduced in 2016. Duty Guidance covers such areas as risk assessment, action planning and staff training.
To ensure we maintain this record we need academics and PS colleagues who interact with students to complete the 45 minute Home Office online Prevent course, which is available from Staff Learning & Development.
If you are a member of staff who interacts with students, I strongly recommend that you complete this course.
I fully recognise that you are likely to be heavily committed already, as well as preparing for the new academic year and can only apologise for making this request at a busy period.
Please make all reasonable efforts to complete this course and, if possible, to do so by Friday, 24 July at the latest.
Should you have any questions, please direct these to Sarah Howard, Compliance and Risk administrator, in the first instance (sarah.howard-2@manchester.ac.uk). There is further information on the Prevent Duty on the Compliance & Risk web pages.
