More than £1 million raised to help students facing hardship

More than 2,000 alumni, staff and friends of the University have donated to the University's Emergency Hardship Fund appeal - bringing the total raised to more than £1 million

Every gift to the appeal will support students facing hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kate White, Director of Development and Alumni Relations expressed her personal thanks to colleagues who have helped the emergency appeal to reach this important milestone:

“I have been particularly touched by the number of colleagues who have supported this emergency appeal.

“I am grateful to everyone who has helped us reach £1 million – whether you’ve made a gift yourself, or shared our appeal with your networks.

“Many of our students are facing real difficulties as a result of the pandemic, and we will continue to work hard to raise the funds we need to support them.”

The University is working closely with The University of Manchester Students' Union to ensure that gifts benefit those students who are most in need of support.

President and Vice Chancellor Professor Nancy Rothwell highlighted the impact that donations to the appeal will have on our students: “I am proud of the way that our community has responded to support current students.

“Thanks to donations from around the world, students at The University of Manchester will have access to an increased level of financial support, at a time when it is needed more than ever.”
