28 May 2020
Highlighting the online services that can help support your wellbeing to help you keep active, keep healthy and learn and discover. Plus in discounts there are plenty of great deals including one for all our cyclists!
You can follow UOMSport on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for their fantastic range of videos of exercises to follow.
As we come to the end of Action on Stroke Month, here is a link to the FAST test. Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK. It can happen to anyone, of any age, at any time. Using the FAST test is the best way to do this. The test helps to spot the three most common symptoms of stroke. But there are other signs that you should always take seriously. The Stroke Association advise if you spot any of these signs to call 999 immediately. Did you know that the University leads major inter-disciplinary research into strokes and has a number of featured projects, which aim to make a positive impact both nationally and globally.
To support your mental wellbeing the staff wellbeing pages has a range of links and signposts support for you during the Covid crisis. Keeping active is so vital for mental health and there are videos of exercises you can follow at home including Pilates and Tai Chi; a back care video with the University’s sport physiotherapist; guidance for managers and links to key internal and external resources.
Learn and Discover is one of our Six Ways to Wellbeing and our cultural institutions are still providing incredible online services. Explore The Whitworth at Home, Manchester Museum in quarantine and Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre for their incredible programmes of activities. If you love frogs (who doesn't!) you can meet them and more on tomorrow's Frog Friday, which Andrew Gray will be hosting live on Manchester Museum's Twitter and on Periscope at 1pm!
The Social Responsibility Team send out a monthly newsletter that you can sign up for. This month’s newsletter included features on suicide prevention and risk during Covid19, the Making a Difference Awards and the Lockdown Lectures that will be running until the 17th June. The next lecture will be by Danielle George MBE, Professor of Radio Frequency Engineering.
