New open access course on antibiotic resistance

19 May 2020

'An introduction to antibiotics and drug-resistant infections' is aimed primarily at members of the public and patients.

Developed by the School of Health Sciences' AMR (Anti-Microbial Resistance ) team - a collaborative partnership between students, academics, and learning technologists – the launch of the new course could not be more timely given the current public health emergency and the link between COVID-19 mortality and antibiotic resistance.

The course was part-funded by a Faculty grant for Widening Participation and Social Responsibility in the Curriculum and had considerable input from a range of key stakeholders including patients, clinical consultants in public health, microbiologists, biological scientists, learning technologists and Antibiotic Research UK.

The course includes user-evaluation and feedback, which will be analysed to identify where any improvements can be made. A full review will be undertaken in three-months time, and ongoing on an annual basis. Future plans include extensions on sub-themes (e.g. resistance in the environment) and CPD certification.
