Intermittent access to University Services - Update 6, 10.05am
05 May 2020
IT Services were made aware of intermittent issues connecting to University services
This included (but was not limited to) access to University websites, Blackboard, Remote access and Global Protect. It took several of our staff and students many attempts to log into services.
Update 1 (10am, 4 May):
Work on the issue continues as a matter of urgency. There is not yet an estimated time to fix, however colleagues from across IT Services are investigating this as their highest priority, working to get our staff and students back online as soon as possible.
Update 2 (10.24am, 4 May):
As the current issues are intermittent, you may find that you are able to access services after more than one attempt.
Update 3 (12.10pm, 4 May)
Work is still ongoing on this issue. We fully understand the impact that this is having on the work of our staff and students; please be assured that our colleagues are continuing to work with our external partners to get this issue resolved as soon as we can. This issue also appears to be affecting students worse than staff, however we are still recommending to try several attempts if unable to log in.
Update 4 (2.20pm, 4 May)
After identifying an issue and making some changes, the impact of the issues appear to be reducing, however extensive investigations and analysis will continue until we’re completely happy that the issue has been fully resolved.
Update 5 (4.05pm, 4 May)
Services are currently remaining stable, and they will be monitored overnight. The next update is expected on Tuesday 5 May at approximately 10am.
Update 6 (10.05am, 5 May)
Working with our network provider Jisc, measures have been put in place to deal with the intermittent connectivity issues experienced by a number of UK education institutions, including ourselves, on Sunday 3 and Monday 4 May.
Monitoring overnight has shown that performance of our services has remained stable since approximately 2pm on Monday. Due to the impact this has had on our staff and students, we will continue to closely monitor the service and act accordingly.
