Zoom screen sharing

Changes to how you share your screen when using Zoom video conferencing
Due to some particularly nasty incidents of "zoombombing" reported by other HE institutions in the media recently, as a University we have taken the decision to restrict screen sharing abilities to the meeting host only.
Meeting hosts can still very quickly make another participant a ‘co-host’ allowing them to share their screen in the meeting as before. This is very easy to do, though you may want to read the instructions on the Zoom website.
This change has been applied at account level and therefore applies automatically to all Zoom meetings scheduled under the University licence of Zoom.
If you have a particular need for participant screen sharing to be turned on, please get in touch with Media Services as it may be possible to create a special group for this, provided other security measures are in place.
Zoom security advice
- Use a randomly generated link for each meeting – do not use your Personal Meeting ID (PMI).
- Password protect all meetings and send the password separately to the meeting link.
- Have 'waiting room' enabled at all times so that participants have to be admitted to a meeting and cannot just join by 'clicking the link'.

A comprehensive Zoom User Guide is available to download from the Media Services website, and you can contact the team by emailing mediaservices@manchester.ac.uk.
