Our Enactus Manchester team reached the semi-finals at this year’s Enactus UK National Expo, which saw 27 teams present inspiring social enterprise projects which aim to transform lives and create a more sustainable world.
More than 5000 people from 78 countries watched the first virtual competition as the planned competition venue transformed into the London Nightingale Hospital.
Enactus helps young people in the UK engage in youth social action and youth social enterprise. Its university programme operates in 60 universities across the UK, engaging up to 3,000 students each year.
Enactus Manchester, presenting remotely from around the world, showcased two of their projects:
- Blossom – a new social enterprise which will work with refugee women in Manchester to create and sell artisanal crafts online;
- Speak Up – a project that has been running for several years to empower migrant parents in Greater Manchester by providing free, accessible weekly English classes at five primary schools.
The team of over 60 students develop and volunteer on enterprising projects to help the community.
This year, they have given over 2,000 volunteering hours to their projects and have raised a substantial amount of money, including £300 through the Masood Enterprise Centre’s Venture Out competition.
