Keeping us connected

Late-night stint from IT ensures we can work and be paid on time

IT Support Centre

Following the announcement of the suspension of face-to-face teaching and closure of non-essential facilities on campus on Tuesday 17 March, IT Services colleagues stayed until 10pm that evening and worked tirelessly over the following 3 days to ensure that University colleagues were able to stay connected and work from home during the Covid-19 outbreak.

It was a combined effort across teams including the IT Support Centre, Field Support, Desktop and Applications Deployment team and the Standard Equipment Delivery and Backlog teams to give colleagues – included those in payroll - remote access on PCs and laptops as well as ensuring colleagues were paid on the expected date.

Spencer Clarke, Payroll Manager, HR Services said: “IT were amazing getting all the team up and running remotely to work from home. They quickly supplied us with the laptops needed, and ensured all staff were up and running with remote access. Excellent Service”.

Malcolm Whitehouse, Chief Information Officer, IT Services added: “I am really proud of the way our people and partners in IT have responded to the unprecedented situation, particularly due to the limited time we had to prepare and put contingencies in place at such scale. There are many examples of how we in IT Services have supported our University to maintain its teaching, research and critical operations. This payroll example is just one those. Well done to the team and all involved.”
