New exhibition MONO: Museum of Native Oak and Polar Day:January Big Saturday.

New exhibition opening this weekend at The Manchester Museum

MONO: Museum of Native Oak
by alchemy artists Nick Jordan and Jacob Cartwright

19 January - 27 April 2008

What is it about an oak tree that makes it so appealing? Why do countries want to adopt it as their national symbol? Explore the answers to all things oak in MONO: Museum of Native Oak, a new exhibition from up and coming Alchemy artists Nick Jordan and Jacob Cartwright at The Manchester Museum from 19 January - 27 April 2008.

MONO: Museum of Native Oak looks deeper into our relationship with nature, examining the developments of our fascination with oak trees. It takes the tree as an individual plant, exploring its many uses through displays which include a 4,000 year old shovel made from oak, discovered on Alderley Edge and Roman oil burners decorated with oak leaves.

The exhibition will also show a series of new drawings by the artists, including Sylvia Britannica: Candlestickmakers Oak, Butchers Oak and Bakers Oak by Nick Jordan.
