Promoting your research – new resource open to academics and researchers

11 Mar 2020

Access new online resource with tools and support you need to reach new audiences and increase impact of your research

A new online resource is now available on StaffNet which outlines the ways our communications and marketing teams can help you promote your research externally.

The site includes advice and contacts to help you hit the headlines with a media story, provide advice on getting noticed on social media and how your research can influence public policy.

The site also provides support for updating your online research profile, resources for international visits, ways to share your stories internally across our University, the support available through our Research Beacons, and support for attracting global conferences onto campus.

There are also links to presentational materials and related resources to help you talk about The University of Manchester.

Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research said: “Our academics, research staff and postgraduates know the benefits of promoting their research through new channels to reach wider audiences and influencers. It can generate new connections that reach beyond usual academic circles, sparking ideas, learning and future collaborations. It helps them to become better researchers and teachers. It’s a great way of reaching specialist audiences, including policymakers, civil servants, NGOs and businesses. And this helps demonstrate the impact of our research – which is increasingly required by funding bodies and of course figures strongly in REF impact requirements.”

Additional support is available if you contact the University’s communications and marketing teams, such as helping you to connect with individuals, groups and organisations who can use your research findings. This includes the Policy@Manchester team’s focus on increasing impact on global, national and local policy.
