Reminder: Network improvements on Saturday, 1 February
29 Jan 2020
Improvements to the University network continue
As previously mentioned, IT Services are performing maintenance on Saturday 1 February between 8am and 2pm. This is part of a programme of work to improve the speed and capacity of our wired and Wi-Fi network.
As a result we are expecting short and intermittent losses of connectivity to various services while network equipment is replaced. This includes, but is not limited to: Wired and Wi-Fi internet access, Hornet, email, GlobalProtect, Blackboard and My Manchester. Colleagues will be onsite monitoring the process throughout.
Other improvements
Improvements to the Wi-Fi networks in Alan Gilbert Learning Commons, Arthur Lewis Building, Core Technology Facility, George Kenyon Building, Michael Smith Building, University Place and John Garside Building started this week. Upgrades in Alan Turing Building, AV Hill and the National Graphene Institute start next week.
In the next few weeks, there will be scheduled downtime while we replace more equipment. This will affect halls of residence in the Fallowfield campus during the day. These details will be confirmed closer to the time, and affected residents will be made aware of the work.
