23 Jan 2020
Help make those pennies go further.
This week there are some tips on saving the pennies on campus, Chinese New Year celebrations, upcoming wellbeing events and final days for the prize draw!
You can sign up for a weekly organic veg box of delicious seasonal produce from just £6 via www.vegboxpeople.org.uk. You can collect your weekly veg box from our pop-up stall outside the Greenhouse Cafe behind University Place every Tuesday. On our site visits (12-5pm) we also bring along a wide range of Trove Bakery bread and Red House Farm organic eggs that can be bought by all staff and students on the day!
If you sign up for FoodInAdvance this allows you to top up your Staff ID Card with money to spend in the FoodonCampus outlets located across campus and save 10% on your purchases.
TOTUM, the new name for NUS extra, gives you access to massive discounts and deals on eating out and fashion, tech and travel, and everything in between. Savings include 10% off at Co-op stores. The cards can now be accessed online. Please follow the secure link for joining instructions.
You can receive 10% Discount at Blackwell's and their in-store Caffe Nero. Just show your staff ID card.
If you’re heading for a day out, you can save at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre. You can either show your staff ID card at the Discovery Centre pay desk or using the secure code when booking online.
If you are a cyclist, the darker nights can be more dangerous. The Serious Cycle Scheme provide cyclists, their family and friends with free Legal Expenses Insurance cover up to £150,000 for registered members. As a member of staff you can access this free benefit via our secure page. A member of staff who recently had an accident on his bike has found them very supportive in progressing a claim and we will be adding their testimonial soon.
Only one more week of try before you buy with drop in Be Active sessions at our Wellbeing Rooms. There are a massive range of options including Yogalates, Piyo, Barbell Sculpt and Express Bums and Tums! The Sugden Centre also has off peak memberships that start from £10.75 per month.
Special events
Chinese New Year is nearly here and the Confucius Institute will be part of the city centre celebrations by running some fantastic activities.
Wellbeing
The staff wellbeing calendar covering the period up to July 2020 is available on the staff wellbeing website. Upcoming events include a free lunchtime concert at the Martin Harris Centre featuring jazz pianist Tom Hewson on 30th Jan. Looking ahead there will be special events for Time to Talk Day on 6th February and charity #AndysManClub will be giving a lunchtime talk about men's mental health on 12th Feb. You can book here. It's recognised that men do find it more diffiicult to talk about mental health and we encourage men and women to come along to show that #ItsOKayToTalk.
