Keep your bicycle secure on campus
21 Jan 2020
We are promoting the various schemes that the University has introduced to keep staff and student bikes safe
The vast majority of bikes are stolen because they are secured by a poor, cable type lock.
You can reduce the likelihood of your bike being stolen by buying a gold standard 'D' lock and cable through the University.
How to obtain a University-approved 'D' lock
- Register your personal and bike details online
- Get your bike marked for free – an additional unique number is added to the frame of the bike at regular sessions on campus. Find out when our next registration event is.
- Once your bike is registered and marked you are then eligible to buy a University gold standard ‘D’ lock and cable (RRP £45) for £15. The lock can only be bought through our online shop.
More information
Two of our students talk about their experience of having their bikes stolen. Ian Halliwell, our Crime Reduction Advisor said: "The University has introduced a number of schemes to help reduce bike crime - unfortunately for Hannah and Christina the advice came too late. Listen to their story to get an insight into how the theft of your bike could affect you and it’s not just financially."
