An update on Windows 10 and Office 365

Windows 10
As you may be aware, Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft from Tuesday 14 January. While many University Windows 7 computers have been upgraded to Windows 10, there are still some computers which need a mandatory upgrade.
What happens after 14 January?
Due to the increased demand, it may be a few weeks before we're able to perform your upgrade. However, please be assured that when you have submitted your request, you will be able to carry on working on your Windows 7 computer until the upgrade has taken place.
For those computers which are still running Windows 7 after January, we will be taking advantage of Microsoft’s Extended Support Programme, which will allow people to use Windows 7 on a temporary basis, until their upgrade takes place.
Office 365
During 2020, we will be moving staff and postgraduate research students to Microsoft Office 365, enabling our people to connect to their resources any time, anywhere and from any device. Colleagues will get access to updated versions of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus OneDrive for cloud-based file storage, and Microsoft Teams for collaboration.
Our planned transfer of a small group of volunteers (‘early adopters’) to Office 365 before the University-wide rollout has been delayed due to a number of technical compatibility issues. We’re continuing to refine the service and a group of IT Services colleagues will be receiving this very soon to test and feedback on how well the applications are working.
We will be in touch with the early adopters when we have confirmed dates for their transfer, and will publish further information when we start rolling out Office 365 to all colleagues.

Unsure which version of Windows you're using?
You can easily tell whether you’re using Windows 7 or Windows 10 by looking at the Windows icon in the taskbar, usually at the bottom left, as per the image below.
The Windows 7 icon is circular and multi-coloured, whereas the Windows 10 icon is solid white.
If you’re already using Windows 10, you do not need to take any further action.
