Tribute paid to alumnus Jack Merritt
The University of Manchester extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Jack Merritt, who was today named as one of the victims of the London Bridge attacks on Friday 29th November. Jack graduated from The University’s School of Law in 2016.
University of Manchester President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell said: "We are shocked and saddened at the death of our former student Jack Merritt, in such tragic circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time. We are also thinking of all those affected by this appalling incident in London.
"Some of our members of staff who are specialists in Criminology were also present at the event Jack was helping to organise for the Learning Together organisation. The event was one in which students, academics and prison inmates came together for learning purposes.
"We have heard so far that our staff are safe, although clearly the events at London Bridge are still being investigated and were deeply shocking and traumatic for all concerned. We will offer every support to our colleagues involved."
