University buildings and fire safety

Information from Estates
Following the fire at The Cube on the night of 15 November, our thoughts are with all the people affected and we praise the professional efforts of the Fire and Rescue Service for the way they managed the incident.
We can reassure all of our students and their families that all University of Manchester-owned halls of residence are safe. None are clad with either Aluminium Composite Material or High Pressure Laminate panels. Of course many of our students organise their own accommodation and we are currently working with letting agents and private landlords to seek this wider assurance. Any students with concerns should contact their landlord or Manchester Student Homes.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has issued further guidance for residents in high rise buildings, following the fire at The Cube. We would further emphasise the need for all students to be fully familiar with the fire evacuation arrangements in the buildings they frequent, particularly their residence. Students are also reminded that whenever the fire alarm activates they must evacuate the building.
