Engagement@Manchester - sharing best practice, insights and opportunities

12 Nov 2019

Our next Engagement@Manchester session will showcase projects funded through our University’s Institutional Strategic Support Fund Public Engagement schemes

Hear about a project engaging women in still birth research, one clearing the haze surrounding scientific discoveries, and how training in immersive theatre helps develop public engagement practice.

Engagement@Manchester sessions are an excellent opportunity for networking with those interested in public engagement, for sharing practice, and for finding out about opportunities and funding.

We hope you can join us on 20 November from 1pm until 2pm in University Place, Room 2.220.

Our speakers

  • Jason Chu, current doctoral researcher working on macrophage behaviour during wound healing. Jason is part of the team behind “Have You Heard?”, a public engagement project reaching local community groups to help bridge the line between science and the headline. The award-winning “Have You Heard?” team were awarded funding through the ISSF Emerging Engagement scheme.
  • Michelle Desforges is a research fellow at the Maternal and Foetal Health Research Centre, one of the largest pregnancy research centres in Europe. Michelle is part of the team leading the award-winning public engagement project “Still Life”. This project, engaging women with still birth research and now reaching Jewish communities, received initial funding awarded through the ISSF Established Engagement scheme.
  • Bentley Crudgington is a research associate in the School of Medical Sciences and public engagement practitioner. They have received funding through the ISSF Professional Development scheme to develop their skills in creative facilitation and the use of immersive theatre as a public engagement tool.
