Sector-leading new Research Metrics service from the Library

12 Sep 2019

New, easy-to-digest reports on research performance and impact now available on the Library website

Research Metrics Reports

This week the Library’s Research Services team launched their innovative new Research Metrics Reports. Based on data gathered from multiple sources, each report is tailored to a specific school, department or division and delivers diverse and detailed analyses of individual research areas.

The reports which will be published twice a year, are downloadable via the Library website where staff will also find a series of how-to guides, explaining how to interpret the report data responsibly.

These reports have been designed to provide Manchester staff with a greater understanding of their research outputs in a variety of contexts. They will support staff with nuanced evaluation, such as assessing the citation performance of particular disciplines, as well as targeted competitor analysis and the identification of potential future collaborations and interdisciplinary research opportunities.

While the new reports will likely reveal many previously unknown insights into the University’s research activity, they may also generate new questions and in this event, the Library’s Research Metrics team are on hand to provide bespoke research analysis.

Lorraine Beard, Associate Director of Research and Digital Horizons at the Library, said: “The Library’s Research Metrics team really is sector leading, providing University of Manchester researchers with unique data and insight on the impact of their research.”

The Library’s new suite of research metrics services is the result of a strategic service redevelopment project run in consultation with the wider University community.
