Your Payroll Giving to inspire others

09 Aug 2019

In May, the total figure donated by you to charities via our Payroll Giving Scheme exceeded £1million

Payroll Giving

This figure represented donations since 2005, over half of which has been donated since the scheme was relaunched in 2014.

Your fantastic achievement has been recognised by the Charities Aid Foundation who recently interviewed Vanessa Cowan, our Reward, Wellbeing and Benefits Advisor, about our Payroll Giving Scheme along with Helen Davies, who works for the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, to get her view on what regular charity giving means to her.

Helen Davies chose to donate to CALM, a mental health charity, after losing someone close to her to suicide. She said: “I think it is very important that my employer provides this service. It benefits charities and allows the people who donate to feel they are doing something worthwhile and helping causes they believe in. It also shows what a difference people can make as individuals and as part of a wider working community.”

The Charities Aid Foundation is planning on sharing the interview through their social media platforms this week, and also with other universities to inspire them to promote their GAYE (Give As You Earn) scheme internally.

Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources, said: “It is wonderful hearing that the generosity of staff to charities via our Payroll Giving Scheme is being used as inspiration to other universities and employers.”
