After years of research and collaboration with University colleagues, the Library’s innovative reading list service overhaul is now complete. Teaching staff can use Reading Lists Online to access the following Library services from a single online location:

  • Create and manage reading lists
  • Make reading lists visible to students in Blackboard
  • Order new items for teaching
  • Ask for book chapters and journal articles to be digitised for students
  • Transfer a highly used print book to High Demand loan status

Staff can also take advantage of useful new system functionalities to support their teaching.

Chris Pressler, John Rylands University Librarian and Director of The University of Manchester Libraries, said: “We’re grateful to all our colleagues who have engaged with us to undertake this ambitious transformation to a fundamentally important University service. From participating in our robust research and consultation processes, to working with the Reading Lists team during the move to Reading Lists Online, collaboration has been crucial to delivering this major contribution to the University’s strategic aims.”

Reading Lists Online provides seamless and consistent access to reading lists via Blackboard to teaching staff and their students. It also provides a streamlined resource ordering process for staff, and delivers an excellent student learning experience by enhancing resource provision and availability across all modules. It places the Library at the forefront of service provision in the higher education sector, confirming its position as a world-leading academic library.
