Upgrading to Microsoft Windows 10

Windows 10 is the latest version of the Windows operating system from Microsoft
Currently, many University computers use Windows 7, which will no longer be supported from early 2020.
New University staff computers are being supplied with Windows 10 (excluding Apple Macs and computers solely using Linux), but over the next few months, we will need to ensure that computers using Windows 7 are upgraded.
Staff computers running Windows 10 will also use Microsoft Office 2016, with the latest versions of Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Skype for Business (formerly Lync).
Colleagues using Windows 7 on a University managed computer will need to upgrade to Windows 10 before they can use Office 365.
Staff can also install more than 320 applications on their own PC using the Software Centre, without needing to contact the IT Support Centre.
If you're using Windows 7, IT Services will be in touch at some point over the next few months to plan your upgrade. IT Modernisation
As part of Modernising IT, the End User Computing (EUC) programme is modernising our IT Infrastructure to improve IT provision for University staff and students. In addition to the above upgrade to Windows 10, we’re investing in multiple projects to transform services for our staff and students.
These projects include: Changing the hardware procurement processes to ensure staff receive computers and other equipment in a timely fashion, updating our Microsoft Office suite to Office 365 to enhance the way we access emails and productivity software, providing colleagues with cloud-based OneDrive storage, and more.
