Water win! MSC UK Sustainable Seafood University of the Year triumph

The University of Manchester is the UK’s leading university for sustainable seafood

The University has been awarded the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC) University of the Year in their annual Sustainable Seafood Forum and Awards. The award recognises that we serve the largest volume of MSC seafood of all the certified universities in the UK. 

MSC, an international non-profit organisation, exists to keep the world’s oceans inhabited, safeguarding seafood supplies for our generation and future generations. Its certification programme recognises and rewards sustainable fishing practices, and is helping to create a more environmentally friendly seafood market. The blue MSC fish label indicates that the seafood item is fully traceable - originating from a wild-catch fishery which has been independently certified to the MSC’s science-based standard for environmentally sustainable fishing. 

Our commitment to supporting our planet and maintaining a sustainable existence is part of 10,000 Actions – the University’s environmental initiative which encourages staff to make small commitments which can ultimately make an impact in tackling the world’s greatest challenges
