Worthy Farm welcomed Lemn Sissay, Professor Carly McLachlan and Professor Michael Wood
Award-winning poet, writer, broadcaster and Chancellor of the University, Lemn Sissay MBE, took to the Glastonbury stage this weekend. In his first ever festival performance, he read from his latest collection of poems, Gold from the Stone, in the Poetry and Words tent.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change, who held court in the festival’s Speakers’ Forum. Professor Kevin Anderson spoke of the need to target affluent 'high emitters' (including frequent-flying academics), FSE's incoming Head of Engineering, Professor Alice Larkin gave a talk on aviation and shipping, while Director of Tyndall Manchester, Professor Carly McLachlan discussed ‘Cities, Councils and Climate Emergencies’.
Elsewhere on the bandstand Croissant Neuf, Professor of Public History, Michael Wood provided a unique soundtrack to the people’s history with an hour of English song and radical stories.
A special mention should also be made to the University alumni in attendance:
- The Chemical Brothers – Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands who both studied History in 1992 – headlined the Other Stage on Saturday night
- Sophie Galpin, a student here in 2012, appeared with SOAK on the Park Stage
