University reaffirms commitment to the LGBT+ community

University, Students Union and AllOut reaffirm commitment to the LGBT+ community

The University aims to be an inclusive and welcoming campus for all its staff, students and visitors. We want everyone to succeed and achieve their potential and this can only be realised if we Speak Up and Stand Up for each other.

The following statement demonstrates our commitment, along with the commitment of the The University of Manchester Students Union and the AllOut (LGBT+ Staff Network), to inclusivity.

We continue to work towards inclusivity and access to all through our teaching, research and social responsibility. The recent letter published in The Sunday Times and the subsequent media debate is a reminder that LGBT+, and in particular Trans* or non-binary, individuals still face discrimination and inequality throughout society and the education sector is no exception. We are proud of our association with Stonewall and will continue to work with them to achieve their mission to allow everyone to flourish and achieve their full potential.

Once again, we reaffirm our commitment that the University will not tolerate any form of harassment, bullying or discrimination including, transphobia, biphobia or homophobia and encourage all staff, students and visitors to challenge and report this through our ‘Report and Support’ tool.

We wholeheartedly pledge that all LGBT+ staff and students are accepted without exception at The University of Manchester and we will continue to demonstrate this through our joint ‘Speak Up Stand Up’ campaign.
