Alumni Volunteers Month: Introducing you to Manchester Day of Action
05 Jun 2019
On the third day of our Alumni Volunteers Month, we introduce you to our newest programme – Manchester Day of Action
During June, members of our global networks of alumni volunteers will support socially responsible projects in 30 – and counting – locations around the world.
In cities as diverse as Baghdad, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paolo, alumni are being asked to identify local communities or charitable projects that groups of fellow graduates can support in one day.
The University aligns its social responsibility activity with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and all our Manchester Day of Action projects, so that our community of volunteers can support our commitment to a better future for all.
Taking social responsibility seriously
Markus Karlsson-Jones, Global Volunteer and Network Officer, says:
“Our alumni are spread throughout the world with large numbers in almost every major city. We’ve recruited a network of over 250 alumni volunteers who run 60 local alumni groups across 40 countries.
“They take social responsibility seriously. Throughout June, alumni the world over will be taking part in a Manchester Day of Action, coming together in groups to support local community projects. There’s a beach clean-up in Mumbai, ‘plogging’ (picking up litter whilst jogging) in Paris and donating books to a children’s hospital in Sao Paulo. Alumni show tremendous initiative in supporting their University and their communities.”
Can alumni volunteers help you?
Manchester Day of Action is one of dozens of examples of how our community of 8,000 alumni volunteers across the globe support the University’s three core goals.
Learn more about how alumni volunteers can support your own projects at the University by joining the Alumni Engagement team for a free speed networking lunch at 12.30pm on Thursday, 27 June.
