Our School Governors Initiative reaches 1,000 milestone

The Initiative, with a network of over 1,000 staff and alumni, celebrated the milestone figure recently at the Making A Difference Awards

Since its inception in 2011 the number of staff and alumni volunteering as governors in our local, regional and national schools and colleges has grown exponentially, revealing just how committed our staff and alumni are in giving back to their local communities and making a difference to young people.

This initiative helps raise education standards, creates stronger links with local communities and opens up a range of higher education opportunities to schoolchildren.

We have a strong network of committed and enthusiastic staff here at the University and our governors strive not only to do the very best they can in their governor role but also to support and share their experiences with their governor colleagues.

This video shows the great progress the initiative has made in the past eight years and provides an overview of how far the school governor initiative reached in this time.

We have also produced a short, animated film to help and support other universities who wish to develop their own governor schemes. If more universities get on board with this initiative, the higher education sector can make a huge difference to the success of local schools and colleges by lending their skills, knowledge and passion for education to the state school sector.

Helen Knowles from Inspiring Governance will be on campus on Tuesday, 4 June from 11.30am – 2pm to answer any governor-related questions and speak about the opportunities currently available in local schools.
