University updates its Dignity at Work and Study Policy
The University has updated its Dignity at Work and Study (DaW) Policy and strengthened services that help people take informal and formal action.
Harassment Support Advisors are available to provide information and advice on the policy and we have increased the number of trained mediators available to support staff and students resolve conflict informally.
It is vital that we strive for an environment within the University in which bullying, harassment and discrimination are not tolerated. This kind of unacceptable behaviour must be identified early and managed effectively.
Acts of bullying, harassment and discrimination can often start with negative attitudes, beliefs and stereotypes about other people. These beliefs are cultivated through exposure and repeated reinforcement.
Our ‘Speak Up Stand Up Campaign’ aims to encourage everyone to challenge negative behaviours, and take action against the causes of bullying, harassment and discrimination.
Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research, who led the review of our Dignity at Work and Study policy, said: “Here at Manchester, we believe that it’s everyone’s responsibility to promote an environment where we all feel respected and valued. Our Speak Up! Stand Up! campaign is a perfect example. By challenging negative attitudes, beliefs and stereotypes we can all take action on the causes of bullying, harassment and discrimination. Let’s work to make our campus a safer, healthier and more enjoyable place for everyone.”
Don't be a bystander, call it out and report it!
If you or someone you know has experienced any form of harassment, discrimination or bullying, you can report it anonymously or report it and get support from one of the University’s Harassment Support Advisors:
