President and Vice-Chancellor announces poetry competition
24 Apr 2019
Competition open to all staff, students and alumni
Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell has announced the inaugural University of Manchester poetry competition, which includes our Chancellor Lemn Sissay as one of the judges. Announcing the competition, Nancy commented:
“I'm delighted to announce the poetry competition being run by The Centre for New Writing, in partnership with Creative Manchester. It's open to all students, staff and alumni of The University of Manchester. Manchester was designated as a UNESCO City of Literature last year and has been home to many great writers, and the inspiration for much notable creative work.
“As Jeanette Winterson has said, 'Manchester has never been a sit-down-and-shut-up kind of city…', and this competition invites you to add your name to that list of great Manchester writers, and to draft a poem that responds to your experience of the city and the University. I would very much encourage you to participate.”
The competition is open until Sunday, 19 May 2019 and details on the prizes and how to enter can be seen at the poetry competition website.
