Advice to change personal account passwords for all Elsevier sites

Publisher Elsevier has recently informed the Dutch data protection authority of a data breach, with reports suggesting that a number of email addresses and passwords were exposed

The University of Manchester immediately requested it be notified how Elsevier would inform users and reset their accounts.

However, as Elsevier has not yet confirmed its response to the breach, we’re asking colleagues to change passwords for any personal accounts using their services.

If you used the same password for any other accounts, please also change those credentials.

Elsevier sites requiring a personal account include Mendeley Data, Hivebench, SSRN, Mendeley and SciVal.  Scopus and ScienceDirect do not require a personal account but you may have set one up to benefit from additional functionality.  If you access Elsevier services using only the University’s Login Service, no action is needed.
