Celebrate International Women's Day #BalanceforBetter with events across the University
The theme for this year’s International Women's Day on Friday, 8 March was #BalanceforBetter. Across the University, events took place that celebrated the contribution of women, while highlighting the need for a more gender-balanced world, and there are still more events to come.
SBS Athena SWAN’s work-life balance event
The importance of achieving an effective work-life balance in academia will be explored on Wednesday, 13 March by a host of speakers, including:
- Professor Colette Fagan, University Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Professor Peter Clayton, Deputy Vice-President and FBMH Deputy Dean
- Professor Kimme Hyrich, Clinical Epidemiologist
- Dr Rachel Cowen, Co-founder of CARD and Senior Lecturer
This free event is open to all and takes place on Wednesday, 13 March, 10:00am – 11.30am in the Michael Smith lecture Theatre, Michael Smith Building, Dover Street.

MACE coffee breaks
Attend a short talk followed by coffee and conversation, dedicated to female researchers. There’s the opportunity for staff across research groups to deliver a ‘lightning talk' – an update on their own research, an extra-curricular interest or what they are doing to tackle gender imbalance.
