Making our Technician Commitment
04 Jan 2019
The University has become a founding signatory to the Science Council’s Technician Commitment
The Technician Commitment is an initiative for the UK’s universities and research institutions to address the visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability of their technical workforce across all disciplines.
As a founding signatory, The University of Manchester has fully committed itself to the aims outlined in the initiative, which is led by the Science Council and supported by the Gatsby Foundation. The University will build on its current development of Technical Services, which are already aligned to the national initiative, but will be strengthened by both the national commitment and the sharing of good practice across more than 60 major institutions.
Our Institutional Signatory is Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources, and the Institutional Leads are Colin Baines and Peter Crowe, Faculty Heads of Technical Services (Faculties of Science and Engineering and Biology, Medicine and Health, respectively).
Over the coming months, Colin and Peter will meet with technical staff across the three Faculties to discuss and plan how the University will drive the Technician Commitment that will have the most positive impact for our technical staff.
