Lunchtime sessions give managers practical advice on a range of HR topics
In response to issues highlighted in the 2017 Staff Survey around staff wellbeing and work life balance, FBMH’s School of Biological Sciences worked alongside HR colleagues to develop a series of short introductions to management best practice and HR topics exclusively for academic and PSS managers in the School.
The ‘In a Nutshell’ series ran over lunchtimes between November 2017 and April 2018. Most of the sessions were facilitated by the School’s HR Partner, Stephen Johnston, who said: “The sessions were designed to provide a relaxed and informal forum where managers from across the School were able to discuss past experiences and future challenges with guidance from HR and colleagues.
“Attendees gained practical tips to introduce within their teams and had an opportunity to talk through example scenarios.”
Each 45 minute session covered one of the following topics - employee wellbeing, employee performance, recruitment and selection, supporting new staff, flexible working and parental leave.
