Helping shape our future approach to University communications

18 Oct 2018

Over the summer the Division of Communications and Marketing conducted an all-staff survey asking for your views on how our University currently communicates with staff and what improvements could be made

More than 2,500 members of staff responded from all areas of the University, providing feedback which will help shape future communications plans at a University-wide and local level.

Key findings included:

  • 57 per cent of respondents thought University communications could be improved
  • Respondents said that the University has too many communications channels, leading to repetition of information which is not tailored or relevant to individuals
  • Staff want to hear leaders’ opinions and views
  • Respondents wanted more communications from their line managers and thought there were not enough channels to feed information and ideas upwards.

Sally Sykes, Director of Communications and Marketing, said: “I would like to thank every member of staff who responded to the survey. This valuable insight will help inform our future engagement and internal communications strategies. We want to keep on listening to your thoughts on how we can improve, so as a next important step we are holding workshops to ensure our research is as representative of your views as possible.”

The workshops are scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 November. Feedback will be used to shape future internal communications campaigns and for no other purposes. Any personal data gathered as part of the project will only be kept for a limited amount of time and the sessions will be hosted by an external consultancy and the University’s internal communications team.
