The University MCR Strollers raise £519 at Maggie’s Cancer Centre's Culture Crawl
On Saturday 29 September a number of the University MCR Strollers took part in a Maggie’s Culture Crawl for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Manchester.
Gill Howarth, Michelle Inwood, John Cuffe, Hawys Williams and Vanessa Cowan completed the annual fundraiser along a 10km route where they experienced interesting buildings, live entertainment, food and a taster of the life-changing support that Maggie’s provides in their Centres.
A number of the walkers on the night had cancer, were recovering from cancer or were walking for loved ones. Yet again the Whitworth Art Gallery opened their doors to support this event along with the Royal Northern College of Music and other cultural and entertainment venues across Manchester.
This year the strollers raised £519 which, combined with the previous two years, means they have raised £1,732 (£2,092 with Gift Aid) to help Maggie’s continue their work.
Michelle Inwood said, “Being diagnosed with cancer and dealing with the emotional, physical and social impacts can be a terrifying experience. Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Having visited on a number of times we know how much support visitors receive from the caring staff and volunteers. We all want to say thank you to everyone who helped sponsor us.”
