European Commission official to debate Brexit and the European Union's future

One of the European Commission’s most senior officials, Mr Margaritis Schinas, is visiting the University to discuss the European Union's future challenges, including Brexit, immigration and the reform of the EU’s governance structures
Mr Schinas is the Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission and one of the closest associates of the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Junker. Schinas is also the Deputy Head of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Communication.
Schinas will deliver the Annual Lecture of the Manchester Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCE) on Friday, 5 October, from 5:30pm until 7pm. The Director of the JMCE, Professor Dimitris Papadimitriou, said: "With so much uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the future of the EU, the presence of such a high profile speaker in our University provides an excellent opportunity for debate and engagement from both our students and staff."
The event is open to all, but prior registration is essential.
Following the lecture, which is being held in Lecture Theatre A, University Place, Mr Schinas will be taking questions from the audience.
