Single use plastic action group launched
21 Sep 2018
What we are doing to tackle the issue of single use plastic
The University recognises that as a global institution it has a responsibility to review its single use plastic consumption and as such has established a single use plastic action group that will feed into the University’s decision making structure via the Environmental Sustainability Leadership Group. The group comprises a mixture of academic and PSS staff and will focus on single use plastic across our research, teaching and hospitality services.
In addition to this, Professor James Thompson, Vice-President for Social Responsibility, is representing the University on the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s plastic steering group.
The University is taking the issue of plastic usage very seriously and has already made a number of changes in practice. We are also committed to exploring further actions thoroughly, using Manchester researchers’ expertise, before additional decisions are made. The group will be developing an action plan alongside relevant communications to ensure that staff and students are updated.
Information on how to reduce your plastic use can be found on the sustainability website. Please contact es@manchester.ac.uk if you have any queries about plastic use at the University.
