The Stellify Award – for our amazing students
24 Sep 2018
Formerly known as the Manchester Leadership Award, this award is given to students who distinguish themselves by learning about our world, developing their skills and serving our communities
The Manchester Leadership Award – presented to our most distinguished undergraduate students – has changed its name to the Stellify Award.
The Stellify Award is the University’s most prestigious extra-curricular award that students can gain from taking part in our Stellify programme, a package of activities that guides students to develop the distinctive attributes of a University of Manchester graduate.
Stellify supports students to take part in activities linked to five points of action:
- Learn without boundaries
- Understand the issues that matter
- Make a difference
- Step up and lead
- Create your future
Students receive the Stellify Award upon graduation if they complete all of the following Stellify activities:
- All three Ethical Grand Challenges – Sustainability Challenge in year one, Social Justice Challenge in year two and Workplace Ethics Challenge in year three and beyond.
- 40 hours of volunteering (for the benefit of the wider community) verified by the University or Students’ Union.
- Two of the following leadership roles – Peer Support, student course representative, Residents Associate/Junior Common Room committee member, Students’ Union/Athletic Union club/team/society committee member.
The Award is an optional element of Stellify.
Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, Professor Clive Agnew said: “Our University is distinctive within the British higher education sector for our commitment to social responsibility. Evidenced in research through our five Research Beacons, through Stellify we’re also seeking to make it more obvious in our teaching and learning opportunities.”
