Wellbeing September

05 Sep 2018

The Be Active course list is now live for you to look and book courses

If you are unsure about committing to a number of sessions there are opportunities to try before you buy during the week 8-12 October with options such as Hatha, Iyengar and Power Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, Cardiopblast and Kettlebell conditioning.

September is a big month for national health days including World Alzheimer’s Month and Urology, Blood Cancer, Vascular Disease and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

This month includes the Oddfellows Friendship month. This may resonate with many people as loneliness is a growing problem in the UK. More than nine million people of all ages say they are lonely. One of the University’s Six Ways to Wellbeing is Connect. So why not use this month to get to know new people, rekindle old friendships or reach out to others you think might be lonely. Building these connections will support and enrich you each day.

Other key dates including Migraine Awareness Week, Organ Donation Week and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning when Macmillan’s Cancer Support encourage everyone to organise a coffee morning to raise funds. StaffNet has been reaching out to find out how many colleagues this year are taking part to be able to share and encourage other staff to come along and try your cakes!

Action for Happiness have released their September 2018 calendar with daily actions to help you be kinder to yourself (as well as others). Some of these actions include, “forgive yourself when things go wrong. We all make mistakes” and “make time to do something  you really enjoy.”
