Wi-Fi at the University for staff, students and visitors
05 Sep 2018
We’re making some changes to our visitors’ Wi-Fi network to improve performance
University staff and students can benefit from the secure, high-speed eduroam Wi-Fi network. In addition to eduroam, Sky’s ‘The Cloud’ Wi-Fi service is available to all visitors on campus.
The Cloud is currently available across the entire campus, and due to high numbers of staff and students using this instead of eduroam, this causes performance issues for everyone; staff, students and visitors alike.
Eduroam is more suitable for staff and students, as it features:
- High speed access
- Guaranteed support through IT Services
- Availability across the University campus and other institutions worldwide
- Excellent security settings, due to an encrypted connection and protection by the University’s firewall
From Monday 10 September, to improve the Wi-Fi experience for everyone, The Cloud will only be available from the following locations:
Whitworth Art Gallery | John Rylands Library |
Manchester Museum | Academy and Students’ Union |
Chancellors Hotel | Whitworth Hall |
Food on campus locations | Major building entrance areas |
External areas |
Please note – The Cloud network will be enabled in all locations across campus on Undergraduate open days.
