Calling all teaching staff: Improve the accessibility of your lectures

23 Aug 2018

Would a virtual pointing device that can highlight and magnify your presentation improve your students' learning?

100 Logitech Spotlight Presentation Remotes are available for teaching staff who are willing to use them in their lectures and provide feedback, in a trial funded by the Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS).

If you take part in the trial you will be asked, along with your students, to complete a survey in December 2018.

Described by Logitech as “A whole new standard in presentation control”, you can navigate your slides from up to 30 meters away and use the advanced pointer to highlight, magnify, or pinpoint areas of focus with a digital laser. What’s more, with our innovative lecture capture system, these actions also appear in the lecture recording.

The pointing devices are available free of charge from IT Services to staff who meet the following criteria:

  • You lecture on a course for students enrolled at the University.
  • You are happy for us to contact yourself and students on your course(s) as part of a feedback survey.
  • You teach using your own laptop (Windows or Mac) or the teaching desktop PCs.

All teaching spaces across the University are already equipped with the necessary software and drivers for the pointers to work – you simply plug a receiver into a USB port, and after a few seconds the remote will connect.

Interested in the trial?

If you’re interested you can reserve a Logitech pointer by contacting the IT Support Centre. You’ll then need to arrange to collect it from the walk-up support desk in the Kilburn Building.
