Changes to the 147 bus service and advertising withdrawal
16 Aug 2018
The bus service will still be free for staff and students travelling between Sackville Street and the Students’ Union Building on Oxford Road
Staff and students who use the free 147 bus service will notice some changes from 3 September with a new operator, earlier start times and a more regular service.
Stagecoach will be taking over running the 147 but staff and students will still be able to travel free of charge between Sackville Street and the Students’ Union Building on Oxford Road if they show a valid student or staff identity card.
The change has come about because the existing contract to run the 147, which is funded by Oxford Road Corridor partners, will expire at the end of August.
The new Stagecoach service will run along the existing route from Manchester Piccadilly train station but the service will be extended to West Didsbury.
The new 147 service will begin at 5:31am from Manchester Piccadilly Station to the MRI and operate every 15 minutes until 6:46am when the frequency increases to every ten minutes and journeys extend to West Didsbury. The last departure from West Didsbury will be at 8:04pm.
If staff and students wish to travel outside of the Sackville Street-Students' Union zone they need to pay for the relevant parts of their journey. As with all bus travel, non-payment may result in a fine.
