DSE use The Hive to drive staff engagement

DSE’s action from the 2017 Staff Survey used The Hive to gather staff feedback
One of the key themes identified in the Directorate for the Student Experience (DSE) Staff Survey 2017 results was the importance of internal communications. In particular the results showed there were opportunities to enhance the channels available for staff to feed their views upwards, in addition to optimising communications between teams and sections of the DSE.
Following a successful campaign on The Hive that resulted in 16 ideas from staff on how the Directorate could improve internal communications a number of activities have been developed:
Lunch and Learn sessions have been established. More than 60 staff attended the first event on 13 June where Will Spinks discussed his perspective on the challenges in delivering an outstanding student experience. The next session will see Matt Atkin, Director of Planning deliver a presentation on ‘The Future of Higher Education’.
Tracey Campbell Monks, Executive Officer said: “Initial actions included streamlining the number of communication channels and delivering a monthly Team Brief in a new format. The Hive provided an opportunity to make suggestions and generate ideas on key themes from the Staff Survey. So far over 600 votes have been cast by colleagues and we are now working to implement a number of ideas.”
The Hive provides an online channel that allows staff to share ideas in response to a specific question or problem.
