Bingo! A big thank you – and a great catch up for colleagues

The work of Directorate of Estates and Facilities staff celebrated at thank you events – positive action from our very first Staff Survey

Colleagues from Directorate of Estates and Facilities have been celebrated at their thank you events, founded after feedback from Staff Survey 2013. The Directorate began hosting the events in 2014, to ensure our staff felt valued for all their hard work.

The Directorate has over 1,000 staff members, all working various hours and shifts across many University locations, making it difficult to organise Christmas parties or other large gatherings that work for all staff members.

Every six months it holds a Thank You Breakfast and a Thank You Lunch in Whitworth Hall and up to 300 staff members can register to attend one of the events. The events include food and refreshments along with quizzes, games of bingo, and other activities in which staff can win prizes.

The events give staff the opportunity to meet and socialise with colleagues, and put faces to names, which isn't always possible with being spread right across the campus.

“The events are an excellent idea,” said the Maintenance Services Unit team.

“You meet new staff and management, you get to see old colleagues that have moved to different departments and it is also a team building exercise.”

The Capital Projects Unit team agreed: “The events are a great opportunity to get together with colleagues from across the Directorate, to have some fun and celebrate the hard work that we all as a team contribute to the University each year.”
