Developing the work that saw 82% of staff aware of their responsibilities – action from Staff Survey 2017
Following Staff Survey 2017, Dignity at Work was a theme that the University wanted to keep as a priority despite results showing that 82% of staff are aware of their responsibilities within the University’s Dignity at Work and Study Policy on bullying, harassment and discrimination.
As part of the action plan, a group was set up to review the current Dignity at Work and Study Policy and Procedures, develop and deliver disability awareness training for line managers, develop and deliver active bystander training for staff and students and further promote the ‘We Get It’ campaign.
Where are we now?
- The Dignity at Work and Study Policy and Procedures are being revised and will be presented to the relevant committees for approval. Once approved the new policy and procedures will be shared with staff.
- A training session ‘Supporting Staff with Disabilities’ has been developed by the Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS) for line managers. The first session took place in December 2017 and will run at regular intervals throughout the year.
- Active bystander training is currently being developed for students. This material will be adapted for staff and made available in 2018/19.
- The next phase of the We Get It campaign, encourages all members of the University community to ‘Speak Up and Stand Up’ to harassment and hate crime both online and in person and this will be promoted in 2018/19. The campaign aims to increase knowledge and confidence in people so that they are empowered to safely speak out against all forms of harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination and hate crime, stereotypes and micro-aggressions.
