Faculty of Humanities meetings more engaging

Faculty meetings made more interactive - action from Staff Survey 2017.
The formats of Humanities Faculty meetings have been amended, resulting in more interactive and engaging gatherings, following Staff Survey feedback that some meetings weren’t maximising the time spent.
Faculty Office meetings, which usually happen four times a year, are now led by members of the team rather than the Director of Faculty Operations (DoFO). While the DoFO introduces the sessions and joins in all activities, the meetings are now used to introduce the team to upcoming Faculty and University projects or themes. The focus of each session is to encourage debate and participation in activities designed to enhance the projects through a sharing of ideas, leading to increased understanding, buy-in and engagement with the planned project.
The Dean’s Core Brief meeting has been similarly developed. Rather than the Dean and DoFO presenting to Tier 4 colleagues, the format has shifted to one that is more interactive, with each meeting planned around a different theme. The themes have been designed to fit in with key dates and activities throughout the academic year. Although these are set in advance, if needed, themes can be changed to reflect issues and opportunities that arise over the course of the year.
The meetings are now led by different members of the Faculty or PSS Leadership Team. Not only does this result in the sessions being led by colleagues who have the greatest understanding of the theme, it helps raise colleagues’ visibility among their peers, which addresses further Staff Survey feedback.
