Education Administrator Helen Kreissl tells us why she is Proud to be PSS
Helen Kreissl has been working for our University for nearly 20 years.
As an Education Administrator at the School of Chemistry, she works directly with our students: “I'm proud of the close relationships we are able to build with our students, many of whom come to us for support, not just involving their academic life, but issues they may have outside of academia.
“Whilst we can't make them all ago away for the student, we can sign post them to a vast array of support at the University including DASS, counselling service, central student support team and more.”
This essential role here on campus has grown in importance over the years; now it is vital to our student experience.
Again, this makes Helen proud: “Over the years I have seen an increased focus on wellbeing and more honest and open discussions about the impact mental health can have on a student’s progress.
“The University has been pro-active in helping to break down the stigma around mental health issues and whilst there is more work to be done, particularly with young men, it makes a huge difference to students knowing they have somewhere to turn.
“I'm proud at every graduation ceremony, and for those students who have faced adversity and made it to that day, it’s extra special and makes my job worthwhile.”
